5 Myths About Digital Marketing

September 18, 20253 min read

If you’ve ever thought digital marketing was only for tech experts, influencers, or people with hours of free time… you’re not alone.

When I first heard about digital marketing, I believed half the myths I’m about to share with you. I almost didn’t start because I thought I wasn’t “enough.” Not techy enough. Not popular enough. Not organized enough.

But here’s the good news: those myths aren’t true. And today I want to pull back the curtain and give you the truth. Simple, mom-to-mom.

Myth #1: You Need a Huge Following to Succeed

The Truth: Success comes from connection, not numbers.

I know it looks like the moms with 50,000 followers have it all figured out, but here’s the reality: 200 engaged email subscribers can often do more for your business than 20,000 silent followers on Instagram.

You don’t need to go viral. You don’t need to dance on TikTok. You just need the right people to see what you’re offering and to feel like you get them. That’s where the real growth happens.

Myth #2: It Takes All Day, Every Day

The Truth: You can run a digital business in just a couple of hours a day.

Most moms I know don’t have endless hours to pour into business. We’ve got meals to cook, kids to teach, and laundry that never, ever ends.

But here’s what’s beautiful about digital marketing: it’s built for flexibility. Consistency matters more than clocking in 40 hours a week. A focused two hours while the kids nap or after bedtime can move the needle more than you think.

Myth #3: You Have to Be Super Techy

The Truth: You don’t have to know coding or even be “good with computers.”

When I started, I thought I’d need to learn complicated programs or spend thousands hiring a tech team. Nope.

Today, there are drag-and-drop templates, ready-made sales funnels, and tools that guide you step by step. If you can shop online or post a picture on Facebook, you can learn digital marketing. And honestly? Once you get started, it’s kind of fun!

Myth #4: It’s All About Selling

The Truth: At its heart, digital marketing is about serving.

I used to picture pushy sales tactics and awkward “Hey girl!” messages in my inbox. But the truth is, good digital marketing feels nothing like that.

It’s about solving problems for people. It’s about sharing resources that help. For me, it’s about using business as a way to serve other moms and point them toward peace, purpose, and God’s presence.

Think of it like this: you recommend your favorite coffee shop to a friend because it blesses you. Digital marketing is the same, just with digital products and tools that can bless someone else.

Myth #5: It’s Too Late to Start

The Truth: It’s never too late.

I hear this one a lot: “Everyone’s already doing it. I missed my chance.” But the online world is constantly expanding. New moms are searching every single day for the exact encouragement, solutions, and tools you could share.

The best time to start may have been yesterday, but the second-best time is right now. God doesn’t wait for us to have perfect timing. He equips us for the season we’re in.

Final Thoughts

Friend, don’t let these myths hold you back like they almost held me back. Digital marketing isn’t about being the most popular, the most techy, or the most polished. It’s about showing up with consistency, heart, and the willingness to learn.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, maybe this is it. Start small. Trust the process. And remember: God can do big things with even the smallest yes. 💛

✨ Question for you: Which of these myths has been holding you back the most? Drop it in the comments. I’d love to know I’m not alone!
