How Verse Mapping Has Deepened My Faith

I recently started a verse mapping class at church, and it has been such a gift in this season of motherhood. I have learned so much already, and it has helped me understand Scripture in a deeper, more personal way. As moms, life can feel rushed from the moment we wake up. There are dishes to wash, laundry to fold, children to care for, meals to make, schedules to manage, and endless needs to meet. It can be easy to read a verse quickly and move on without truly letting it settle in our hearts.

Verse mapping has helped me slow down.

Instead of rushing through Scripture, I have been learning to pause, study each word, look at the meaning, and reflect on what God may be speaking into my everyday life as a mother.

This week, I spent time in Book of Psalms 119:10–11:

"I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

These verses felt especially meaningful in the middle of mom life.

Because if I am honest, motherhood can sometimes pull my heart in a hundred directions. I can spend my day meeting everyone else’s needs while neglecting my own soul. I can become distracted by the mess, frustrated by interruptions, overwhelmed by responsibilities, or impatient when the day does not go as planned.

But these verses remind me that even in motherhood, I am first called to seek God with my whole heart.

Not after the house is spotless.
Not after the children are quiet.
Not after I finish everything on my to-do list.

Now, in the middle of the real and messy moments of motherhood.

God does not ask moms for perfect routines. He invites us into a relationship with Him right in the middle of our ordinary days.

As I mapped these verses, I also realized how much I need God’s Word hidden in my heart as a mom. There are many moments in parenting when I need truth quickly:

When I feel impatient.
When I compare myself to other moms.
When I feel unseen in the daily sacrifices.
When I am exhausted and running low.
When guilt tries to tell me I am not enough.

In those moments, having God’s Word stored in my heart becomes a lifeline. His truth reminds me that I am not alone, that my work matters, that His grace is sufficient, and that I can begin again.

Verse mapping has also shown me that spiritual growth in motherhood does not need to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like reading one verse while little feet run through the house. Sometimes it is writing Scripture on a sticky note near the sink. Sometimes it is praying one verse while folding laundry or whispering truth over myself before the day begins.

Small moments matter.

God meets mothers there.

I am so thankful I started this class because it has reminded me that the Bible is not distant from daily motherhood. It speaks directly into it. God’s Word gives wisdom for the chaos, peace for the pressure, and strength for the weary places.

If you are a mom who feels stretched thin or unsure how to grow spiritually in a busy season, start with one verse. Slow down. Read it again. Ask what it reveals about God and what it reveals about you.

And if you need help getting started, I’m here to help and would love to share the basics of verse mapping with you. Just shoot me an email.
